Creating a CNAME record for any of the domains or subdomains that you've got in the hosting account will enable you to direct it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded domain name will lose all of its records - A, MX etc, and will take the records of the domain address it is being forwarded to. In this light, you simply can't create a CNAME record to point your domain name to a third-party provider and maintain a working e-mail service with the first hosting provider. Additionally, it is essential to know that a CNAME record is always a string of words and never a number as it is frequently confused with the A record of the domain name being forwarded. One of the major uses of a CNAME record is to point a domain address you own through one provider to the servers of another provider assuming you have set up a site with the latter. This way, the website will appear under your own domain name, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan from our company and you would like to create a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted inside your account from the Hepsia CP that comes with every single plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, choosing the type, that will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the change. If you have never added such a record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will aid you with this task. If you have created a website via another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few clicks within your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to set up a CNAME record without difficulty. If you want to create a private URL for your emails, to redirect a domain to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain address to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it won't require more than 3 clicks to create this sort of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the CP, so once you're there, all that you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then input the actual record text. For your benefit, you can see a short video in the CP concerning how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section.
